Featured are stud earrings made from the ever-coveted material, gold slag. More commonly known as Rosarita.
Rosarita is a unique material that derives its vibrant red color from gold refining. It is an amazing by-product of the 1960s and 1970s gold refining processes. The Alaskan beach sand was smelted for its gold content, and the slag by-product was Rosarita, a gold-infused glass. The base material for Rosarita is silica (which is quartz particles) mixed with gold at high temperatures.
It might be nerdy jewelry thing, but it is one of my favorite materials to look at.
