Mother-Daughter-Matriarch

This collection examines the shifting roles between mother and child while navigating the unexpected. Following my mother’s life-altering car accident on December 26, 2025, I found myself sifting through her life and, in turn, my own. As parents age, roles often reverse; the parent becomes the one in need of care, and the child becomes the mother.

After decades as a jeweler, the combination of my mother’s accident and the recent loss of my dogs, Izzy and Sorah, left me unable to create until now. On January 21, sixteen-year-old Izzy passed away after a slow decline. Sorah, our four-year-old matriarch and Izzy’s protégé, managed our household and monitored Izzy’s seizures. Despite her own cancer diagnosis, she remained a protective companion until her passing on February 1. This work reflects the emotional toll of caring for them and the heartbreak of losing both within two weeks.

I believe love is a form of generosity. To any artist navigating hardship: shift.
I had to change direction to process this pain, stepping away until I was ready to return to my craft. When I finally was, the subject matter was waiting for me.
