We have two inlay offerings. 

Learn about it with The Language of Stone is an intarsia focused lecture led by Fati Genese, followed by a Q&A session. Attendees will study inlay and stone-working through the lens of the craft's global history. We have a tendenciy to get hyperfocused on one style that made it into magazines and galleries, but there is so much more!

Be about it through our full  5-Day Inlay Immersion! Students will go on to engage in guided daily design sessions, explore fusing techniques, and develop a personal visual language rooted in their own lived experience. Instruction is hands-on. Both beginners and experienced makers leave with completed work and a stronger sense of their aesthetic voice. I cannot promise this class will happen again. Reserving your spot is just an application and a deposit away. Space is limited!

Who is Fati Genese?

Fati Genese is an inlay and ceramic artist with 25 years of jewelry fabrication and construction experience. She has studied, demonstrated, taught, exhibited, and sold inlay jewelry across the US, building thematic inlay collections online for over a decade. Fati champions experimentation in her teaching, prioritizing individuality and creative voice over recycled themes and ideas.

Where is it located?

You'll be working in a beautiful open studio with hardwood floors, located on the second floor in the Dekum Triangle in Northeast Portland, Oregon. Exact location details are sent to registered students one week before class begins.

What is the studio environment like?

Expect a good amount of standing, sustained focus. You are strongly encouraged to move around and stretch as needed. Neuro-spicy stimming and acts of selfcare welcome. There will be moderate to loud noise in the afternoons. Earplugs, dust masks, and eyewear will be provided.

What level of experience do you need to take this class?

None. All skill levels are welcome.

What makes this particular workshop stand out?

You'll work in a studio modeled after Fati's own workspace, built for focus and creative flow. The curriculum is rich and wide-ranging. Past students often describe it as feeling more like a retreat than a class. You'll leave with finished pieces and a lot of new inspiration. The goal is work that lasts, not just a beautiful or trending motif. 

What if I am a returning student?

Returning students get an automatic discount, but full attendance is expected - there's a lot of new material to cover. Make sure to register using the listing titled "Inlay Immersion - Returning Student Deposit."

What is the cost?

The Language of Stone - $97 (2 hours total)
Inlay Immersion - $1,250 for new students / $1,000 for returning students
A $50 supply fee is collected on the first day of the workshop.

Why is this offering fee lower than the anual workshop in NYC?

Inlay Immersion has slightly shorter days, aimed at preventing student burnout. Less hours = lower cost.

Am I able to split up payments?

Yes. The deposit is 50% of the total registration fee. The remaining balance is due by October 5, 2026. Registration closes October 1, 2026.
- New students: $625 deposit / $625 balance
- Returning students: $500 deposit / $500 balance

Payment & Cancellation Policy

New Students (total $1,250 / deposit $625)

Your deposit is refundable according to the following schedule:

• Cancellations received by September 23: full refund (100%), $625.00
• Cancellations received September 24 through September 29: 75% refund, $468.75
• Cancellations received September 30 or after: no refund

Once your final payment of $625.00 has been submitted, it is non-refundable.

 

Returning Students (total $1,000 / deposit $500)

Your deposit is refundable according to the following schedule:

• Cancellations received by September 23: full refund (100%), $500.00
• Cancellations received September 24 through September 29: 75% refund, $375.00
• Cancellations received September 30 or after: no refund

Once your final payment of $500.00 has been submitted, it is non-refundable.

Full registration balance is due by October 5, 2026.

To request a cancellation, please reply directly to your original acceptance email.

This class requires a minimum of 3 students to run. If that minimum isn't met, all registration fees will be refunded in full.

Who will be there?

3-6 students meet for 5 days in a row. It's kept small by design.

• Thursday - Monday, October 8-12: 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM

What if I am not able to make all of the days?

You can arrive up to 15 minutes late or leave up to 1 hour early each day. If you need to miss more than that, this class may not be the right fit. Full attendance is not required, but strongly encouraged - the class moves at a steady pace.

What is the age requirement to take the class?

Recommended for ages 16 and up. Fati has welcomed students as young as 12, and for younger learners, private 1:1 lessons will become available Fall 2027 for a more personalized experience.

Is the studio wheelchair accessible?

No. The studio is on the second floor and requires climbing stairs.

Is there a place to get lunch close by?

Yes - there's a coffee shop, a pizza place, and other restaurants all within walking distance.

Is there a break during class for lunch?

Yes, every day from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM.

Can we film or record the class?

No. You're welcome to take photos of your own work and fellow students. Photos of all projects and a class photo will be taken at the end.

Can I bring my own stones?

Yes, and you're encouraged to. Bringing your own stones is a great way to get specific questions answered. We do NOT allow Pyrite, Sanora Sunrise, or Copper Ore on the machines. Keep in mind that not all stones work well for inlay - that's covered in class. The supply fee is still required regardless. One of the biggest benefits of learning from Fati is her real-world experience: she's seen how pieces hold up over time and in different conditions.
