What is it?

The Langugae of Stone is an intarsia focused lecture led by Fati Genese, follwed by a Q&A session.. Attendees will study inlay and stone-working through the lens of the craft’s global history.

After a lunch break registered  students will go on to engage in guided daily design sessions, explore fusing techniques, and develop a personal visual language rooted in their own lived experience. Instruction is hands-on. Both beginners and experienced makers leave with completed work and a stronger sense of their aesthetic voice.

Who is Fati Genese?

An inlay and ceramic artist who has studied, demonstrated, instructed, exhibited, and sold inlay jewelry across the US, creating thematic inlay collections online over the last 10+ years. Fati champions experimentation while instructing, leaning into the art of finding your individuality and creative voice over recycled themes and ideas.

What level of experience do you need to take this class?

No experience necessary. All levels are welcome.

What makes this particular immersion stand out?

You’ll learn in a studio modeled after Fati’s home workspace, set up to maximize creative flow. The curriculum is informative, imaginative, and expansive. Former students remark that Fati’s teaching style feels more like a retreat than a class.

Learning to create inlay is more than a process — it’s the experience of opening new creative doors along the way. By the end, you’ll have finished pieces to take home and a wealth of inspiration.

Who will be there?

A cohort of up to 6 attendees will meet for 5 consecutive days. It is designed to be intimate over commercial.

Workshop Schedule

- Thursday – Sunday, October 8–11: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Monday, October 12: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

What if I am not able to make all of the days?

You can miss the first 15 minutes of each day and leave 1 hour early. If you need to miss more than that, I would pass. Full attendance is not required, but highly encouraged to keep up with the pace of the class.

What if I am a returning student?

If you are a returning student, you will receive an automatic discount, but you would be expected to attend all days. There is a massive amount of valuable new information to share. Make sure to check out with the listing that contains the appropriate title. Your checkout should read, “Inlay Immersion - Returning Student Deposit”.

Can I bring my own stones?

Yes, you are always encouraged to bring your own stones to get questions about them answered. Not all stones are great for inlay. We cover much of this in class. The supply fee also covers consumables and will still be required. Much of learning inlay is a fast-forward to 4 years later. Learn from instructors who have seen their pieces out in the world, lived and exposed to the elements. Aim for longevity and durability over a fleeting design trend.

What is the age requirement to take the class?

16 years and older. The youngest age Fati has taught was 12. We recommend 1:1 lessons for a more tailored experience for ages younger than 16.

Is the studio wheelchair accessible?

It is not. There is a fair amount of steps to climb. The studio is located on the second floor.

What is the studio environment like?

A good deal of standing, ample focus required, and a moderate to loud amount of noise. Please prepare yourselves. Ear plugs and dust masks will be provided.

Is there a place to get lunch close by?

Yes, there is a coffee shop, a pizza place, and restaurants within walking distance.

Is there a break during class for lunch?

Yes, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM every day.

Can we film or record the class?

No, but you can take photos of your own projects and each other. We will take photos of all projects and a class photo at the close of class.

Am I able to split up payments?

Yes. This deposit represents 50% of the total registration fee. The remaining balance is due by October 5, 2026. Registration closes October 1, 2026.

Payment & Cancellation Policy

- Cancellation on or before September 17, 2026 — deposit is 100% refundable
- Cancellation on or before September 24, 2026 — deposit is 75% refundable
- Cancellation after September 30, 2026 — deposit is non-refundable
A $50 supply fee is collected on the first day of the workshop.
