Stone As Muse

Stone as base, stone as frame, stone as muse. For me, it’s a refreshing departure from traditional metal-framed jewelry.

I carve away part of one material and precisely fit another material into the space. Each piece is built by setting one material into another, creating the illusion that the raised form is gently floating above the surface while remaining securely integrated into the overall design.

I first tried this type of inlay in a class about 10 years ago. No one suggested it; I simply wondered whether it might be possible. It has remained one of my favorite techniques. For each piece, I select the base with care, keeping durability and longevity in mind.
